CATHOLIC CHURCH VS. POLITICAL DECISIONS
Even if we talk about Colombia as a non-religious country, we all know that the Catholic Church keeps leading the national efforts to keep traditional moral of the Colombian people through time. So many topics about contemporaneous situation have been treated by them as something that should be ruled by the Catholic Church, somehow we can consider that the religion have kept the community “stable”, putting a limit between they consider “good” and “bad”. The moral laws don’t allow people’s mind to be cruel, unconsidered and mean with each other, but, sometimes people act on their own, not caring about other people’s wellness and it creates an ethical conflict between the Catholic Church and the general population.
Homosexuality, sexual abuse, pedophilia and divorce are some topics which Catholic Church try to keep away from the community. The religion have always tried to keep the concept of family, union and harmony between everyone who belong to an organized society, but, it’s hard to keep it that way when the world has pushed away the providence of something divine and has decided to be happy and pleasant on earth. Globalization and Market’s economy has led the world to a new era where the personal profit is over the general profit, so people have become selfish and independent from the religion. Sometimes we think religion should not be into moral discussions about family, holiness and ethical issues because they have some inner problems that makes us doubt about the moral authority of them to make an opinion or suggestion about contemporaneous situation. Sometimes it is annoying the intervention of Catholic Church on politics because they try to push Government decisions and don’t understand that the world keeps on a continuous advancement where ethical and moral customs have been neglected, not totally but they’ve changed to be tolerant and respectful to everyone on a contemporaneous society.
