• Guaitipán es el nombre de la Cacica indígena que lidero a más de 15.000(quince mil) indígenas de las tribus Timanaes, Yalcones, Tobos, Maitos, Oporapas, Tarquis, Laboyos, Guacacallos, Sicanas, Pakíes entre otros pueblos por la defensa del territorio. La laguna lleva su nombre en honor a la gran luchadora que nunca se arrodillo a los crueles invasores, allí se dice que reposan reliquias sagradas de los pueblos de estos territorios.

Se encuentra alrededor de la Vereda la laguna a 18 km del casco urbano del municipio de Pitalito por la vía que conduce hacia los municipios de Saladoblanco y Oporapa.

De Pitalito a la laguna en camioneta son 45 minutos en bicicleta dos horas y a pie de 4 a 5 horas.
