Gabriel Garcia Marquez

One of the most important contributions of Gabriel Garcia Marquez to literature goes from the Psycho-Drama to default of the some letters in the Spanish alphabet, but before know that details, we have to know more about his life.

The first thing that we can note of his life is his full name which is Gabriel Jose de la Concordia Garcia Marquez or as we know him commonly “Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Gabo)”. He was born on March 6th, 1927, in Aracataca – Magdalena; a small Colombian town. He is son of Gabriel Eligio Garcia, who was a telegrapher, and Luisa Santiaga Iguaran, who was a daughter of a Colonel in that town. The history of his parent´s love was inspiration to Gabriel Garcia Marquez to write “love in the time of Cholera” (1985)

Shortly after his born, his parents had to move to Barranquilla and they leave him with his maternal parents; Colonel Marquez (papalelo as Gabriel told him) and his grandma Tranquilina Iguaran (mina), but when his grandpa died and due to his grandma´s blindness, Gabo returned with his parent house, located in Barranquilla. His childhood is narrowed in his written memory “Living to tell the tale” (2002)

During his educational growth, Gabo was registered in a boarding school, where he was met by his humorist redaction and his way to write with sarcasm, his classmate called him “The Old”. He won a scholarship to study Law in Bogota. Hi did not finish that carrier a he came back to Cartagena, where he worked as journalist in a local newspaper, he could race step by step in journalist carrier and he forgot his law carrier

In the high school levels he met Mercedes Bracha, who is his wife, with her, he had his first son in 1959; Rodrigo Garcia (a famous Latin-American filmmaker).

Gabriel Garcia Marquez obtained is first prize as writer with “One hundred years of solitude” on June, 1967, with this book he sold more of 8 thousand of copy. Due to its successful this book was translated in 44 different languages, giving him four internationals prizes; one of this prizes is “Chianchiano Aprecia” in Italy.

In 1981, he was accused of business with a “guerrillas” group called M19 in Colombia; he fled to Mexico, obtaining Politic help. During his period of time in that country, he wrote some books and a play called “Diatraba of love against a man sitting” and a movie called “A very old sir with big wings”.

In 1999, a terrible sick invaded his life, he told textually to the newspaper “El Tiempo” of Bogota: “a year ago, I was submitted to a treatment during 3 months against lymphoma…” Fortunately he won the battle against lymphatic cancer.

He had a strong influence of Phyco-Drama of William Faulkner; we can note it in his narrations; comparing him with Faulkner´s job. In his writing style we can found the humor and the use of tragedy with a sarcastic tone.
