How Blaise Pascal Changed Our Lives

Blaise Pascal

Blaise Pascal was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and Christian philosopher.

He invented the calculator, which is a mechanical device used to perform automatically the basic operations of arithmetic.

The main reason why Pascal created the calculator was not to take the world of math by storm, that ,was actually, far from what he wanted. He created it to help his dad handle taxes, since he was tax adjuster. He didn’t know this invention would suddenly take off into epic proportions.

The idea that Pascal left behind would eventually be picked up by Gottfried Leibniz. With a few improvements, he added a number of different features to the device, putting in, an addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even a divide button so there would be somethingin it for all to use in order to solve some really hard problems. Later on another man named John Napier invented another aspect to the calculator to be used. This new aspect was a multiplication based table that would make use of metal rods simply called “Napier’s Bones” in order to make the extra work involved in the multiplication tables better for everyone to use.

The initial idea of the calculator was from pascal but through time, with contributions to other inventors as the one I mentiones before and some others, the idea was evolving and now the electronic calculators are the ones we use. So acording to this we can atribute this great change in society to Pascal.

Calculators are really a man’s gift to the world. Without it our world’s growth would have taken so much longer to get where it is today.

Even some the most genius minds had to make use of this device if they wanted to solve complex groupings of numbers because if they didn`t they took a very long time. So if this genius took a lot of time resolving things, imgine how much would we take?

The calculators help us alot beacause while our average minds take minutes or a lot of time resolving operations, the calculators take only few seconds, so instead of spending a lot of time doing it we can do it in a few minutes and take advantage of all the time we save by using calculators.
