The Alzheimer is a type of dementia between the populations in a worldwide level. This kind of illness has been affecting at the society, in special at the people that stay with the patient. Moreover it can be divided in three facets, from the normal until the most severe.
This illness began in the early twentieth century, when Alois Alzheimer, a psychiatrist german told us about a strange case about a characteristic disease cerebral cortex that he observed in a woman many years ago.
The first case of Alzheimer was in 1906; Alois Alzheimer discovered the illness in a woman in her 51 years old. She started with amnesia, aphasia, agnosia, and persecution mania, symptoms indicating a picture of dementia. In 1901 Alois examined for first time the woman; he observed that she had a language disorder and picture of severe hallucination. She spend on many doctors but nobody knew what to do, so on April 1906, four years later she die because of her illness, After her death Alois conducted a neuropathological examination of her brain that had been donated for study post-mortem, and the results revealed the existence of cortical atrophy, plates and arteriosclerotic changes.
According to the Alzheimer Disease International (ADI), in 2000 there were 18 million people were suffering from dementia, 11 million in poor countries and 7 million in rich countries. This figure have been increasing over the years reaching a total of 34 million people, of which there are 24 million sufferers in underdeveloped countries, mainly in China, India and Latin America. Therefore the 70% of people with dementia live in poor countries.
In Mexico there were approximately 300,000 people that were suffering of Alzheimer in 2000 but now there are 47,5 million people that are suffering of dementia, besides each year 7.7 million new cases are recorded.
In the world there are 36, 5 million people with this kind of disease, that is to say the 0,5 percent of the worldwide population. Furthermore in Western Europe there are 6,98 million. On the other hand, in Latin America there are 3, 10 million. Additionally, in North America there are 4,38 million people with this kind of illness, and that's because sometimes they don’t know all about this disease, they are not informed.
Scientists at the University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, proposed to develop a skin test to detect brain abnormalities, including Alzheimer’s disease, so they can warn us about a solution. Moreover, a new study at the University of Brasilia in Suzie, has been providing scientific evidence showing that green tea extract reinforces certain cognitive functions, especially memory
Besides, a group of Spanish scientists, led by Dr. Ramón Cacabelos have already designed the first vaccine to deal with the Alzheimer capable of preventing the disease or reverse its manifestations when it has already developed.
