Angel Falls

is the highest waterfall in the world, with a height of 979 m (807 m of uninterrupted fall), January 2 generated from the Auyantepuy. It is located in the Canaima National Park in Bolivar State, Venezuela.

This nature reserve, established as a national park on June 12, 1962 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, covers an area of 30,000 km ² (similar to the land area of ​​Belgium), to the borders Guyana and Brazil and its size is one of the largest in the world. The name that is known internationally, Angel Falls, was suggested by a Venezuelan in honor of the American aviator Jimmie Angel, who in 1937 more formally confirmed the existence and exact location of the crash to fly over it in an airplane and later settle at the top, giving it just global impact. The waterfall has been "Angel Falls" for most of the twentieth century, named after Jimmie Angel, a US aviator who was the first to fly over the falls in a plane. It is located in Venezuela, South America.

The common Spanish name "Salto Ángel" derives from his surname. In 2009, President Hugo Chávez announced his intention to change the name to the original indigenous Pemon term ("Kerepakupai Vená", meaning "waterfall of the deepest place"), on the grounds that the nation's most famous landmark should bear an indigenous name. Explaining the name change, Chávez was reported to have said, This is ours, long before Angel ever arrived there… this is indigenous property. However, he later said that he will not decree the change of name, but only was defending the use of Kerepakupai Vená.
