EXPLORACIÓN:
BIODIVERSITY
Biological diversity, or biodiversity, is manifested at all levels of the organization (genes, species, ecosystems and landscapes) and can be seen in all forms of life, habitats and (tropical ecosystems, forests, oceans and seas, ecosystems savannah, wetlands, arid lands, mountains, etc.).
The effect of human activities - greatly expanded in recent years due to population growth and global climate change - has reduced much biodiversity systems worldwide. It is therefore important to redirect the attention of educational programs so that teachers and learners are allowed to protect biodiversity. The issue of biodiversity should be introduced or developed both in the perspective of teaching and learning, with curricula and materials designed to generate the desired learning outcomes. Learning objectives should include: academic understanding, the acquisition of securities, training, skills development and adoption of attitudes and behavior conducive to the preservation of biodiversity.
SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLES
Globalization has made consumers powerful agents of the global economy. Our daily consumer choices affect the lives of workers in distant places and the way people live. Sustainable consumption means buying goods and services that do not harm the environment, society and the economy. Although this concerns mainly high-income countries and emerging economies, consumption is a good introduction to the teaching of Sustainable Development. Consumer education is something practical that affects the lives of people near and far. Shares of local consumers may have social, economic and environmental impact worldwide today and tomorrow.
Therefore, education is important for consumers in terms of:
• Learning to know the products we buy, encourage curiosity about how and where our goods are produced as the working conditions of the country. How much travel products to reach supermarket shelves? What is the ecological footprint of the production and transport of certain goods?
• Learn to change behavior and consumption habits using knowledge about the impact of our economic decisions. However, knowledge is not enough. ESD promotes transformative learning in order to change the way people interact with the world.
PEACE AND HUMAN SECURITY
Live in a peaceful and safe environment essential for development and human dignity. Since sustainable development touches all aspects of human life, teaching and learning for sustainable development must include social, economic, environmental and cultural perspectives. Peace and human security are part of the 27 principles of Sustainable Development; "Principle 25: Peace, development and environmental protection are interdependent and indivisible."
Education is vital to live together in peace. It can help avoid insecurities and conflicts undermine progress towards sustainable development. Education can also be used to rebuild a more sustainable society after violent conflict. The "learning to live together", learners acquire the knowledge, values, skills and attitudes that enable dialogue, cooperation and peace. ESD helps develop the capacity to respect differences and diversity and build social tolerance.
