The Inexactitude of the Measurement Tools
In the experiments, the measurement tools vary from one lab to other. When making a experiment, is from vital importance to measure all the samples and obtain all the data as possible, but, does this tools are sufficient exact? Do they give the exact result constantly? These tool were putted on test to try to check this.
Does the measurement tools present inexactitudes? The hypothesis is that yes, they do. Even with the same object, the results may vary.
Materials:
- Tilts
- Metric Tape
- Vernier
- Metallic Cube
- Metallic Cylinder
- Little Metallic Ball
- Big Metallic Ball
- Metallic Circular Thing
- Essay Tube
- Golf Ball
Procedure:
1. First, all the objects were measured with the vernier and the result were taken.
2. Then, the weight of the objects was measured with a tilts and the data was taken
3. After that, the objects were again measured but now with the metric tape.
4. Finally all the data was compared.
Raw data
Vernier (in cm) Weight (in g) Metric Tape (in cm)
Gulf Ball 1. 4.2 45.6 13.8
2. 4.2 45.7 13.6
3. 4.2 45.6 13.7
Essay Tube 1. 11.5 13.6 12.0
2. 11.5 13.7 11.9
3. 11.5 13.6 12.0

2. 2.1 67.9 2.1
3. 2.0 67.8 2.1
Metallic Circular Thing (External) 1. 4.0 67.7 3.7
2. 4.0 67.7 3.6
3. 4.0 67.7 3.7
Metallic Circular Thing (Internal) 1. 1.7 1.1
2. 1.7 1.2
3. 1.7 1.2
Metallic Circular Thing (Width) 1. 1.2 2.5
2. 1.2 2.5
3. 1.2 2.5
Metallic Cilinder (Long) 1. 6.1 79.1 6.0
2. 6.1 79.2 6.1
3. 6.1 79.1 6.2
Metallic Cilinder (Width) 1. 2.0 2.0
2. 2.0 2.0
3. 2.0 2.1
Little Pellet 1. 1.3 8.3 4.4
2. 1.2 8.4 4.5
3. 1.2 8.3 4.8
As we see in the data, even when measuring the same object or sample, with the same measurement instrument, there are inexactitudes. So we can conclude that they will always be differences in the results, and that’s why it is important to repeat the experiment as many times as necessary, and gather all the information we can to avoid a big difference in the final result.
