Process Description
This process is about carrying and sorting chairs in a room with the objective of sort them with a specific form. In the following pharagraph is explained the process in a narrative way.
First, the operators(operator) take(s) one chair. Second, they(he/she) carry(ies) it toward the target place in the room by the sort established. Third, they(he/she) open(s) the chair for leave it in the target place. They(he/she) must be sure with the correct position of the chair. Then, go back for other chair and repeat the principal process. They(she/he) can use(s) a rack of chair to carry the lot of chairs that they(she/he) must sort.
In the video was shown two operators doing this.
Assumptions
Sometimes, know what is doing each operator was impossible. Therefor, this time is represented like a NVAA in the Work Breakdown Table. To represent the NVAA and the waste in the use of time, in the chart is used both types of bar and indicated the reason with a leyend and arrows.
The motion toward to the rack of chairs after leave the chair in the target place, is taken like a motion waste.
The time expended by the operator to open the chair when arrives in the target place, is taken like a NVAA. This isdue to the “open action of the chair” could be done while the operator carries the chair to the target place.
Recommendations
With the objectives to reduce the NVAA, motions, waiting and free-riders operators; is suggested the following points:
1. We need to short the distance between the transportation to the target place, and the motion of the operator toward the rack of the chair. So, it's recomended move the rack to an area such that the operator can cover the most of target places in a range of 8-10 paces. When the target places on the range are checked, the operator must pull the rack toward other point such that can cover other the most of target place in a range of 8-10 paces. So, the rack must start more closer of middle of the corridor and no in the start of this.
2. With the objectives to reduce NVAA, the operator must pick up the chair from the back and seat. This way, when he/she carries the chair to the target place, can open it easily and save time.
3. In the video can been seen the demotivation of one operator. In this case, the operator is like a “free-rider” in a working group. Using the “free-rider” theory, is recomended to implement a compensation system to reduce the “free-rider” operators. For example, pay to the operator by chairs sorted or reward who sorted the most of chairs..
