A mixture of ethane and propane has the equilibrium data given below. Five hundred kgmol/h of a mixture containing 30 mol % ethane is to be separated into a destillate containing 2 mol % propane and a bottoms containing 5 mol % ethane. A partial condenser and a partial reboiler Will be utilized. A column pressure of 19.0 atm has been decided on. The reflux ratio R will be 6.0. From the standpoint of equilibrium stages only, would it be better to introduce the feed as a saturated liquid or a saturated vapor? A quantitative comparison is required. In either case, estimate the condenser and reboiler temperatures.
