DEDICATION

This work is dedicated above all to God, to

our family who helps us every day, to

our teacher and our instructors, who

guide us day by day to train us as good

police officers in order to collaborate

in the development of our country.

THIS WORK HAS TWO OBJECTIVES.

  1. Use the 'ing' form of verbs to describe actions as they happen.
  2. Correctly uses the forms of the present continuous.
  3. Apply rules and exceptions to make a sentence in the present continuous tense.
  4. Use the present continuous in interrogative and negative sentences.
  5. Differentiate between the present simple and the present continuous of the verbs.

INTRODUCTION

The present continuous or the present progressive is used to talk about any action that is happening at the time of speaking.

Any temporary action and/or an incomplete action is expressed in the present continuous. It is also known as present progressive.

The verb in the present continuous is made up of two parts:

1. The present tense form of the verb 'to be' – is/am/are

2. 'ing' added to the base verb.

Sentences in the present continuous have a specific structure:

Affirmative sentence structure

subject + present of the verb 'to be' + base verb+ing

Example: She (subject) + is (present tense form of 'to be') + sing (base verb) + ing ==> She is singing.

Negative sentence structure:

subject + present tense form of the verb 'to be' + not + base verb + 'ing'

Example: She is not singing

interrogative structure:

Present tense form of the verb 'to be' + subject + base verb + ing + question tag

Example: Are you singing?
