GREEN ROOF PROUPOSAL
Dear Mr. President:
I’m concerned for Mexico and its environmental situation.
We have lost the culture of care for nature, we're done with the green spaces and that is why there are so many environmental changes.
If we leave this situation, in a few years there will be no food, no animals, and no clean oxygen because plants are in charge of this process and all this leads to end life.
Most Significant effect of overpopulation in Mexico is the high level of pollution. Due to increased human settlements are cut each year 16 million hectares of forest. The rapid growth of human populations has led to the destruction of natural habitats for many species. People invade the habitats of these species, moving them and condemning inhospitable places native species to extinction. This rate of extinction is 10,000 times faster than that occurring naturally.
The solution is to put in all the buildings and houses, a green roof area.
The government should announce it, explain it and help mainly putting it in government offices and providing support for people to put plants on their roofs offering support to pay 30% of the project that is not really expensive.
The idea is to start this project as soon as possible to have great results in the next 5 years.
We need to make the proposal to the citizens, buy the plants and things that are needed, search appropriated roofs and is better to start with the capital and then in the other states.
This have a lot of benefits like: providing amenity for buildings, especially apartment buildings, growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers, improving air quality and reducing the urban heat island effects, increasing wildlife habitat in built-up areas, reducing storm water running off, filtering pollutants and heavy metals, reducing electricity usage on heating and cooling, and providing protection from
some obstacles are that comparing to its environmental benefits, the cost of green roofs has to be one of the cheapest in “green technology”. Although the initial costs of installing green roofs are greater than conventional roof system, the long-term benefits of the roof and energy savings outweigh the original investment. The cost depends on the type of green roofs (intensive or extensive), climate, and plant selection.
Extensive green roof: US$8 to US$20 per square foot.
Intensive green roof: US$15 to US$25 per square foot.
And it takes time and care.
While other “green” technology tends to be expensive and technical hence cannot be afforded by the majority, Green Roof, in the other hand, is inexpensive and proved to be positive in the long-run. In addition, Green Roof doesn’t require extra spaces like water tanks and still does its job well. Many people in the city would appreciate the presence of Green Roof because they have more areas to grow vegetables
