What is poetry?

Poetry has many definitions:

Wordsworth defined poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings..

Emily Dickinson said, If I read a book and it makes my body so cold no fire ever can warm me, I know that is poetry.

Dylan Thomas defined poetry this way: "Poetry is what makes me laugh or cry or yawn, what makes my toenails twinkle, what makes me want to do this or that or nothing."

is an art form in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content.

How many different kinds of poems are there?

There are 7 types of poems that are:

A haiku poem has three lines and 17 syllables.

A quatrain has four lines.

A chinquapin has five lines.

A limerick has five lines.

A diamante poem is shaped like a diamond.

A couplet poem has rhyming stanzas, each made up of two lines.
