Do’s and Don’ts

Part 1: Listening

 Read the instructions and the six options carefully.

 Don`t forget –One option isn’t needed-.

 The first time you hear the recording, listen for general understanding. Note keywords and mark a first choice of answer.

 The second time you hear de recording, listen for words associated with the options.

 Make your final choice of answer using any note you have made.

 Don´t leave spaces.

Part 2: Use of English

 For each sentence you have rewrite read the first sentence and the gapped sentence.

 Think Carefully about how the keyword can be used grammatically in the gapped sentence.

 Think for example, about whether it needs a dependent preposition, whether your need to change the form of another word, or whether the second sentence should be active or passive.

 Complete each sentence using between two and five words. Don´t change the key word.

Part 3: Reading

 Read the questions quickly to find out what information you are looking for.

 Read the text for general understanding make a note of any answers you may find.

 Look the questions again. Foe each question, identify the key words, then read the part of the text where the information is mentioned.

 Don´t read everything again.

 Go on to the next question.If you can´t find the information quickly, make a sensible guess if you can´t find the answer.

 Don´t leave questions unanswered.

Part 4: Listening

 As you listen for the first time, mark the options wich you think are possible.

 As you listen for the second time, check your ideas and make a final choice.

 Follow the same procedure.

 Don´t think about the last extract –Remember to read and listen carefully to the next one.

Part 5: Use of English

 Read the text quickly to get a general idea of the topic.

 Read the text again, using the words on either side of the space to help you decide what kind of word is missing. A noun, a verb, an adjective, etcetera.

 Change the word in the block capital into the word you need by adding a prefix or a suffix or by marking some other change, for example, if the missing is a noun, think of a typical noun endings and choose the one that sounds best. Remember some words may be negative.

 Read the complete text to check it makes sense, if you aren´t shure make a sensible guess.

 Don´t leave unanswered anything.

Part 6: Reading

 Read the whole text quickly.

 Don´t stop to think about individual words.

 Read each question carefully.

 Decide what information is required.

 Look at the part of the text where the information you want should be.

 Choose the option you think is correct, Look for evidence.

 Check your answer by trying to eliminate the other three options, if you don´t know guess.

Part 7: Speaking

 In the part of the interview where your fluency is being assessed it´s important that you keep talking for a minute.

 In part two of the speaking paper you have to describe two photographs. Say how you think are similar together.

 Don´t describe each picture separately.

 Use expressions like `Both photographs show…´, `The main similarity between the picture is…´.

 In part one of the speaking paper, they´re going to ask you questions. It´s important for you to give full answers. Don´t just answer with a few words or single sentences –Elavorate.
