THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA
Shifting the weight of the line to his left shoulder and kneeling carefully he washed his hand in the ocean and held it there, submerged, for more than a minute watching the blood trail away and the steady movement of the water against his hand as the boat moved.
“He has slowed much,” he said.
The bird rose into the air and turned back motionless wings. -Dorados Santiago said aloud. Dorados great.
Mounted oars and pulled out a small line from under the bow. The old man could see the slight bulge forming in water golden big fish following the fugitives. The gold ran, fired under the flight of fishes and would be running swiftly, in the place where the flying fish fall.

-Nice said aloud. It will make nice bait. It must weigh ten pounds.
Just then, while watching their lines, he saw green rods plunged sharply. He grabbed the line and held it gently. He held the line against his back and watched its bias in the water; the boat was still moving steadily to the northwest.
"This will kill the old man thought. Ever have to stop. "But four hours later the fish was still pulling, carrying the boat in tow, and the old man was still firmly settled, with the line crossed behind his back. The fish didn´t change its course or direction all night. "I can´t do anything with him, and he can´t do anything with me, he thought. At least as long as this game. "
