Introduction:
The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is an English language test designed specifically to measure the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment.
Content:
The TOEIC exam for professionals that don´t have english as a main lenguage, it measures the skills and competencies of employees in the workplace.
According to ETS listening skills are important for face-to-face communication, meetings, videoconferencing, podcasts and telephone conversations.
Reading skills are necessary for emails, newsletters, and other business correspondence.
Examination of listening and reading comprehension provides a common standard of measurement for comparing the English skills of current and prospective employees. Exam content reflects real-life tasks and provides the information you need to easily:
Recruit, place and promote employees most qualified
Identify job training requirements
Assign employees to positions in other countries
Where examination of listening and reading comprehension tests taken together with TOEIC Speaking and Writing, the score on the TOEIC test provides an accurate measure of the powers of the four english language skills.
There are two separate parts to the TOEIC test. You can do one or both parts.
1. The Listening and Reading test is a paper and pencil test that takes 2.5 hours and is taken at a test centre.
2. The Speaking and Writing test is an online test that is taken in a test centre and takes 90 minutes. The Speaking and Writing test is a new test which is only available in some countries.
When you take the official TOEIC test, you will get a copy of your score. The scores come from ETS based in New Jersey, USA, but you might receive it through your employer or school. The time it takes to get a score for the standard test (Listening and Reading) varies as it is a paper based test. If you do the optional Speaking and Writing test, you'll get your score in 3-4 weeks.
You score for either test is valid for 2 years at most. It's not valid longer than that as your skills may improve or possibly decline. There's also no limit to how many times you can take the TOEIC test.
