Objective:

Read the article “Indian Companies are adding Western Flavor" again and answer the following questions, giving your reasons.

Procedure:

I read the article several times and tried to identify with the situation of the employees in India, I imagined how I would feel if such a thing happened here in Mexico, or maybe it happens but I´m not aware of it.

I did know that large number of big companies have their call centers outsourced to India for cheaper costs, which seemed really unfair to me.

I actually experimented this situation several times calling to book hotels or calling to ATT customer service (since I have worked in companies that have some sort of office in USA) and I have to say at the end of the day it’s weird being attended by individuals that are not even in the country the problem it’s happening of even understand what you are talking about.

I was really interested in the article so I look it up on line to learn more.

Results:

1.-What is your reaction to the article? Why?

My first reaction is courage and frustration, I feel it’s unfair for the Indians to have to adapt and change to “attend” Americans or Europeans.

I mean we all know that large American companies do this for lowering their cost and particularly this phrase in the article seem to me really hypocrite “to help the companies transcend their image as cheap labor” if the companies don’t want to be seen as cheap, then don’t pay less for a labor or pay the fair amount for this service in your own country.

I know these jobs represent a lot for the Indians and maybe for the job rate in that country but I don’t like the idea that this companies think they “own” them in sort way to even change their culture in their own country.

2.-Do you think Sierra Atlantic´s training policy for its Indian employees is a good example of how to motivate and train staff? Why?

I think the training program it’s not so bad, even us Mexicans should have that sort of programs in the companies, to be better prepared in a professional level, it’s not the case of TECMILENIO, but some colleges do not teach you that kind of things.
