MAYANS COMIDA
The Mayans used to practice 'slash and burn' agriculture.,
They cut down an area of forest and burned the trees.
They used to sow crops in May and harvested them in November.
Maize was the staple food of the Mayans but they also grew beans, chilies, sweet potatoes and squashes. they also used to eat fruit like papaya, watermelon and avocados.
The Mayans used to eat traditional breakfast with scrambled eggs, black beans, cheese, fried plantains and rich coffee. They also invented tamales, which are corn husks filled with chicken, pork, cheese and vegetables.
The Mayans used to drink an alcoholic drink called blache but the Mayans nobles drank chocolate.
Mayan Religion
The Mayans were polytheists (they used to worship many gods).
The most important god was the sun god.There was a maize god and even a god of tattooing.
They also used to practice human sacrifice. Captives taken in war were often sacrificed.
The Mayans used to build many pyramid shaped temples and they had many priests.
The priest used to practice divination and carried out sacrifices
The Mayans also had many religious ceremonies that involved music and dancing. (The Mayans used to use wind and percussion instruments rather than string instruments. They used to play wooden flutes and trumpets and drums made from turtle shells).
Sometimes prisoners of war were forced to play Pok-A-Tok and used to sacrifice afterwards
Mayan Houses and Mayan Clothes
Ordinary Mayans used to live in simple huts of wood or stone with thatched roofs.
They had no chimneys or windows. They didnt use to have wooden doors either. Instead doorways were hung with cloth screens.

they were Living in a hot climate both sexes wore simple cotton clothes. Men wore a loincloth.
Women wore a long cotton dress called a huipil.
The Mayans used to hunt macaws and parrots for their feathers, which were used to make headdresses.
