Summary of Pearl Harbor by Randall Wallace

SUMMARY OF PEARL HARBOR BY RANDALL WALLACE.

Pearl harbor is book that was written in 2001 by Randall Wallace, but it’s set during 1923, 1941 and 1945, . This book apart from telling a love story it also describe some historical events  that happened during de II World War such as the Battle of England between Britain and Germany and also the attack of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese that will make the USA to declare war to Japan and also leave its neutral state.

Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker are two friends who grew up as siblings The passion of both friends is to become pilots. In a few years, they will become pilots in the US Air Force.

Rafe, in the physical tests, meets the nurse Evelyn Stewart and both of them fall in love with each other and they also start a relationship. But this happiness doesn’t last long because weeks later Rafe volunteers to join the Eagle Squadron to be one of their pilots in the Battle of Britain (Luftwaffe vs RAF). But Rafe, before he leaves, promises Evelyn that he’ll be back. Days later Danny and Evelyn along with their friends are transferred to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

After some weeks, the  news of Rafe’s death in combat devastates everyone and they try to comfort each other, mostly Evelyn and Danny. Three month later they meet again and have some drinks together, but this time they promise to keep in touch. At the end both them, Evelyn and Danny end up falling in love with each other and they start a relationship. This relationships is affected by the return of Rafe giving a dramatic turn to the situation.

Before they could speak, settle down and decide what they where going to do, Pearl Harbor’s naval base was attacked by the Japanese aerially and with missiles. After several explosions and the death or injury of many people, Danny and Rafe finally find the opportunity to pilot their planes and fight against the Japanese aerially to gain some time to recover from the attack. This attack causes the declaration of war by the USA to Japan.

The same week if the attack, Danny and Rafe are assigned to California on a confidential mission (Operation Meetinghouse) in which both if them are assigned captains. Although the lieutenant colonel explained and warned them that they will participate in a mission in which it’s very likely that they might not return home, they do it either way . This mission, an unexpected attack of Tokyo with bombs, will end up affecting drastically Danny's, Rafe's and Evelyn’ s lives.
