“Different kind of Darkness”

1. Would you choose to have a biochip to protect yourself, or choose to be able to see and take the risks? Why?

I don’t know for sure whether if I would want to have a biochip because, I am not living that type of reality. However, I do think that if I were to live that type of life, then I would want to have the biochip, but only if I got the full control over it. I also think that even though, the biochip is a type of protection, it would be important to have some sort of training, so that in some point in my life if I ever come across one of those pictures it doesn’t affect me as much, just like Jonathan and his friends when they say, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I would not want to have complete darkness, because there are too many things in life that we need to admire, and with just darkness then I would miss on so much, like in the story when Jonathan gets to see his first sunset, you get to see that he realizes that he has missed so much in life.

2. What difficulties do you think these kids might have when they graduate?

What I think would happen is that firstly they would not be prepared to face the reality. This thanks to several reasons, first because they would not know how to control their chip, and something wrong could happen with that. Also, they would not have enough information to know which images are worst, and this because they are given vague information, and they are just shown one of the lightest images just for a few seconds. So, in my personal opinion the kids who graduate with the biochips, would be totally unprepared for the bad things in life.

“Welcome to your authentic Indian ExperienceTM”

1. Why do you think this story was written in second person (“you”)?

I think that this story was written in second person to make it a more immersive narration. The fact that it is narrated this way you find Jesse’s feelings more relatable, and it also makes you feel like you are the one living everything. It was very important I would say to make it in second person because otherwise it would just be a story of a random guy, and what that person is feeling, but this way you feel angry whenever Jesse is angry or sad when he feels betrayed by white wolf. For me reading this story in second person made me want to continue reading more, and almost like thinking what was going to happen to “my character”.

2. During the story, White Wolf steals Jesse's life and transforms his experience. What might this represent about the Native American experience?

Just like Jesse said there were the fake Indians, are almost like the wannabe’s so at first, he said he almost felt like if he were a fake, not really knowing all of the Indian experience but selling always the same. Then he met white wolf who was a real Indian, and he almost felt afraid, because he knew he was entering
