Taking Risks

“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” –Jim Rohn

Most people avoid taking risks and they just try doing easy things, which they already know how to do well. On the other hand, as far as I am concerned, the successful people are quite different in comparison to ordinary people, they take risks and try new things in order to gain profit and achieve their goals.

“Whoever renders service to many puts himself in line for greatness - great wealth, great return, great satisfaction, great reputation, and great joy.” This quote fits perfectly for Beowulf, a Geat hero who fights the monster Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and a fire-breathing dragon. Beowulf put his life at risk so many times, for the sake of his people. He fought endless fights, just with his hands, and still won. What did he get? Well, he was the hero of his land. Everyone trusted him. He earned everyone’s respect. And when he died, he died fighting, he died for something, and he died with honor.

Now we know, taking risks is important because either you take something in exchange or you learn from them. Trying to do new things gives people opportunity to find new ways that are different from traditional things. Without changing the method of leaving and trying new things people cannot improve their conditions. For example, Columbus was a man who tried to go to the India by a different way and he discovered new continent. If he had taken the ordinary path as other sailors he could not reach this great success. Just like nowadays, we can see new modern computers, cell-phones and other inventions, which help to improve the quality of living. Scientists and researchers use new and different ways to find new things and methods, which can open new horizons in people’s life.

Now we go to our next example. Between the years 1845 and 1852, Ireland experienced a seven-year siege of mass starvation, disease, and emigration known as “The Great Hunger”. All this was product of a potato blight that shocked Europe. This catastrophe could have been prevented if the potatoes were genetically modified. According to scientist, GMO food is presented like a solution to the problem of plague, disease and scarcity of potatoes or any crops. The only problem is, we may not know what these scientific ideas could do and especially how could they affect us. Taking and trying new methods and new things is not always safe. But, without taking the risk of trying these new things people cannot find new ways and cannot understand the advantages or disadvantages of what they don’t understand yet.

Life is all risking. We cannot live timidly. We need to take chances. If we start asking ourselves “What if this happens?” or “What if I don’t get there” “What if?” What if you don’t take the risk and end up losing the opportunity
