The day of the Dead is a mexican tradition that honors people who have died. It is celebrated at the end of october and beginning of November. This festival is also celebrated in many communities in the United States, because many mexicans live there. It is also celebrated in some latin american countries.
Indigenous people in Mesoamerica such as Aztecs, Mayas, Nahuas, Totonacas and Purepechas used to celebrate tradition. During the pre-Hispanic times people used to have skulls a s trophies. They used to believe death and rebirth. Mexicas used to symbolize that the energy of the dead was determined by the type of death they had suffered and not by the behavior they used to spend during their lives.
Aztecs used to celebrate this tradition in August, and they used to be dedicated a complete month in festivities. These festivities used to love the god Mictecacihuatl and they used to preserve to children and the lives of relatives who had died.
On November 2nd, mexicans visit their relatives who have passed away and they prepare food for them. It is a tradition to believe that the soul of the dead comes and visits the living during that night and are able to enjoy the food that is prepared for them. Relatives prepare those dishes that the dead used to spend .
