The movie My sisters keeper, starring Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin, Jason Patric and Sofia Vassilieva, talks about Anna (Abigail Breslin) a planned girls that was born to save her sister Katy (Sofia Vassielieva) from cancer; despite of the situation she has to made the decision between keep on helping her as a whim from her mother or let her sister die.
The elements involved are the values showed on the movie, which are the one usually found on a regular family.
On this essay the values will be analyzed as part of the decision that Anna has to make between save her sister´s life or respect Katy´s decision of giving up the treatment.
There is a scene where Katy didnt want to get out of bed because she felt ugly. In order to make Katy realize being bald does not makes her ugly, Sara, her mom, shave her head to get her out the house.
The element here is solidarity from the mother to make her daughter feel more secure about how she looks apart from her disease.
Mothers are known to be always looking after their children, so here Sara is showing what a mother is capable to do for a son or in this case a daughter.
No matter what happen there are no limits for mothers.
In the movie, Anna respects her sister’s choice. Anna goes with a very famous lawyer to make sure that nothing more is going to be done to her sister, by protecting her self of any kind of operation. When the lawyer saw all the procedures the doctors made to Anna, he decides to help her.
The choice of the lawyer comes just after he realizes that she wants to stop being used as a medical source. He knows how much pain a person could suffer for being exposed to this kind of operations.
Through out the movie Katy was suffering from cancer keeping her auto-esteme down and bringing her down. That´s when Taylor appear, a boy in the same hospital suffering also from cancer. As Sara describe him, “The radiation, which ultimately put Kate into remission, worked its magic by wearing her down. Taylor Ambrose, a drug of an entirely different sort, worked his magic by building her up.”
In other words he was the one thing that bring Katy up and have her keep going though the treatment.
This scene mostly brought to the movie the best value someone could have, love. When Katy only saw a path where she had to go alone, Taylor, who has suffer the same help her walk through it. One of the most important scenes where love gives Katy for a while, a reason to keep going and realize she was not alone. A prove that love not only is a word people say at each other, but sometimes could be the reason people live.
Any decision made has it consequences, and Anna´s decision was to relieve her sister. Remembering everything for what she suffer and everything she learn from her. She learn that in a really tough day your family could help you get out of
