KLASS
It is on the issue of violence in schools, but unlike gringo films on the subject, is not a moralistic sermon on how bad it is to be violent. It is a raw, simple and realistic portrayal of how it feels to be bullied by a group of thugs every day just for the sake of being different.
Joosep, a young Estonian student is a victim of constant abuse and aggression by a group of thugs led by another young man named Anders, the most popular boy in class.
Kaspar is Joosep partner and the only one that feels wrong way in the classroom and the school allows Anders and his friends get away with it, so he decides to defend him, and automatically becomes the second target of bullies.
The indignities and abuses suffered begin to climb to unimaginable levels, which leads to Joosep and Kaspar to make a fateful decision to end the living hell.
The issue of bullying and shootings in schools has been touched by the film several times, especially since the infamous Columbine Slaughter. Klass borrows many elements from the history of Columbine, but also knows how to show a frank, even brutal, it feels to be abused and humiliated every day at school
By the way I loved how the film shows that bullies are nothing but cowards, especially the leaders. Guys who love to torture and humiliate someone just for being different or being quiet and peaceful. Slag not know how to fight like men and they attack in groups or with weapons such as Anders, the villain of the film.
Interesting is also the role of the various groups in the circle of violence. The girls in the class are accomplices of the cruelty of bullies, even Kaspar's girlfriend, Thea, who manipulates the boy to stop defending Joosep and not face Anders. It also shows that although they are not direct participants of beatings, women have their own methods of bullying, such as gossip and ridicule, sometimes more harmful than the blows themselves.
Teachers often indifferent or simply unable to exercise necessary to protect students who are victims of violence authority. And of course the parents, as the case Joosep, whose father is an alpha male who wants his son to defend responding violently, and who strongly influences how the story ends.
Also is incredible that only Kaspar rebels against Anders, especially as ALL class plays along. Maybe just a goth girl is saved, although this is indifferent to the situation of Joosep and is also teased by Anders.
