Business Description
Headquartered in Mexico City, El Puerto de Liverpool, SAB de CV (Liverpool) is the largest department store chain in Mexico. It was founded in 1847 by Jean-Baptiste Ebrard who established a small retail store in Mexico City. The company shares are quoted in the Mexican stock exchange since 1965 (El Puerto de Liverpool, SAB de CV BMV: LIVEPOL1.MX).
The company sells a great variety of products such as clothing, home appliances, furniture, beauty products, electronics, and other consumer products. As of today Liverpool has more than 120 departments per store.
Liverpool´s most important departments are consumer electronics and home appliances, which correspond to 26% of total sales, followed by the woman department, which represent 21% of sales.
It is the largest and most diversified company in the department store sector, owning 92 department stores in 53 cities, 62 of them under the “Liverpool” Brand, 24 under “Fabricas de Francia” Brand, 6 “Duty Free” companies and 25 boutique stores.
The company also has a strong real estate division, to which it is partner, shareholder or part owner on some of the country´s major malls. It has participation in 18 malls in 12 cities around México. It has 325 thousand square meters of gross leasing area, and over 1,500 tenants, with a high average of occupancy rates.
In addition, the company provides financial services to their customers, by offering their own credit cards. Liverpool is the first non bank credit card issuer and the third overall having 2.9 million cardholders.
