Be The Best Of Whatever You Are

Ser el mejor

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,

Si no puedes ser un pino allá en la cima de la colina,

Be a scrub in the valley, but be the best little scrub on the side of the rill;

Sé un monte bajo sobre el valle, mas sé el mejor monte bajo junto al arroyuelo;

Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

Sé un arbusto si no puedes ser un árbol.

If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass,

si no puedes ser un arbusto sé algo más que hierba,

And some highway happier make;

y alegra alguna autopista.

If you can't be a muskie, then just be a bass,

Si no puedes ser un peje ( pez enorme ), sé un róbalo,

But the liveliest bass in the lake!

¡mas sé el róbalo más vivaz del lago!

We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,

Todos no podemos ser capitanes, algunos han de ser tripulación,

There's something for all of us here,

Hay algo para todos en el mundo.

There's big work to do and there's lesser to do.

Hay obras grandes y otras más humildes por hacer.

And the task we must do is the near.

Y la tarea que debemos emprender es la más próxima.

If you can't be a highway, then just be a trail.

Si no puedes ser autopista, sé una pista.

If you can't be the sun, be a star;

Si no puedes ser el sol, sé una estrella;

It isn't by size that you win or you fail.

No es por el tamaño que se gana o se pierde.

Be the best of whatever you are!

¡Mas sé el mejor de lo que seas!
