ANOREXY
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder and a mental health condition. People who have Anorexia have problems with feeding strictly control and limit what they eat.
Want to lose weight because of:
- They think they are overweight.
- They have a strong fear of having fat.
- They want to be thin.
INITIAL SYMPTOMS
- Exaggerated concern about food and food.
- Distorted perception of one's own body.
- Denial of the problem they face.
¿HOW COMMON IS ANOREXIA?
It is much more common in developed countries than In developing countries.
Anorexia is more common In women and girls.
They can also affect The men and the children.
¿How common is anorexia?
Anorexia usually develops over time. Most commonly begins in mid-adolescence In adolescents and young adults, The condition affects approximately 1 in 250 women and 1 in 2000 men.
¿HOW SEVERE IS ANOREXIA?
People with severe anorexia may experience nerve damage and experience seizures, disordered thinking and tingling, loss of feeling or other nervous problems in the hands or feet. Brain scans indicate that parts of the brain experience structural changes and abnormally high or low activity during anorexic states; Some of these changes return to normal after weight gain, but there is evidence that some damage may be permanent.
DEATH RISK
Suicide has been estimated to comprise half of the deaths in anorexia. The risk of premature death is two times higher among bulimic anorexics than among dietary-restrictor types. Other risk factors for premature death include being ill for more than six years, previous obesity, personality disorders, and dysfunctional marriages.
CAN ANOREXIA BE TREATED?
The treatment of anorexia is difficult because people who suffer from it think they do not have this problem. For successful treatment, patients should want to change and must have the support of family and friends to help them.
People with anorexia need to go into a hospital, particularly one that specializes with people with anorexia or bulimia
