Individual Training and Development Plan:
Current Performance and Future Development
Purpose
To create a Training and Development Plan that addresses your performance and career development goals both short-term and long-term as they relate directly to the business.
There are two components of a training and development plan:
“Training” is short-term, what you need now to help you perform your current job and
“Development” is long-term, what you will need in the future that will help you fulfill your career goals.
Process
1. Complete your Performance Review with your supervisor using the Performance Feedback Tool (PFT).
2. Conduct a Personal and Professional Self-Assessment to identify your interests, skills, values, personal priorities, short and long-term goals.
3. If appropriate, utilize the 360 feedback tool for additional competency feedback; click here to access this tool.
4. Identify 2-8 goals you would like to target for development in the next 12-18 months. Take all of the above into consideration when completing your Individual Training and Development Plan.
5. Determine job-required training such as EH&S or FAA required training for your position.
Personal and Professional Self-Assessment
The development process starts with a personal and professional self-assessment. You are the best person to determine your interests, skills, values, personal priorities, short and long-term goals. By having a clear understanding of what is important to you, you can take charge of your career by matching various options that support your priorities.
Consider the following questions:
What is my personal vision?
How would I describe my ideal job?
What are my short and long-term goals?
What are my strengths?
What are my opportunities for improvement?
What are my top five skills, interests, and values?
Where have I been successful and what types of roles have I enjoyed most in the past
Goal Setting
As the first step in identifying your goals, be sure to consider the above personal and professional assessment, your current job requirements and required business unit specific training. In choosing your goal statements, you should target both areas that are critical for your current job and future career goals.
