WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS), which let you create and maintain a blog, a website, etc. It has been developed in PHP, uses object-oriented programming (OOP), for environments running MySQL and Apache, with license GPL (General Public License) and is free software.
PHP is an interpreted programming language, originally designed for creating dynamic web pages.
MySQL is a system manager of database relational, multithreading and multiuser. There are others database managers, for example oracle, sqlserver, Sybase.
To work with WordPress is need a local server, we will use XAMMP.
XAMPP is an independent server of platform open source. It lets you easily install Apache (server web), MySQL and the PHP interpreter in the computer. Also lets you test the applications (blog, website) made in WordPress without have internet access.
Its creator is Matt Mullenweg. It was first released on May 27, 2003.
Now it has become the most popular CMS with respect to any other CMS. The causes of growth are huge, its license, its ease of use and features such as content manager.
Since its release in 2003, WordPress has been updated to new versions, the last version is 4.3.

Plugins
The plugins are code components, that they are installed in WordPress to extend his standard functionality. Example of plugins: Akismet (protect your blog from spam), Contact Form 7 (contact form to send an email), etc.

They are design templates used to set the look and structure of your blog or website.
Installation And Running of Wordpress
Go to the following link https://www.apachefriends.org/es/download.html, for download XAMPP. When the download is finished we need to install XAMPP. So we click in next, we accepted the terms and condition and we selected a directory and we clicked next again, so we wait that finish the installation.
Now we need to download WordPress in https://wordpress.org/download/ and we must decompress it in the folder htdocs and then we run the application XAMPP Control Panel and we run Apache and MySQL.
