5S Workplace
The 5S is a workplace organization method that is based in 5 simple techniques that their names start with an S in Japanese and also in English. The words, their meanings in English and their use are the following:
• Seiri (Sorting): This part of the method consists in eliminating all unnecessary tools, materials and parts to get sure that everything left in the workplace is really related to work.
• Seiton (Set in order): This step has the purpose of getting the work, workers, equipment and parts in the better way possible in order to eliminate time wasting, that work flows free and obtain the most efficient accommodation of resources to increase the productivity.
• Seiso (Shining): After getting everything organized the next step is to keep it that way, as clean as possible, and know what goes where and ensure that everything is where it belongs.
• Seiketsu (Standardize): This step consists in detecting all the anomalies and irregular situations, and then ensure that everything is uniform, it includes all the procedures and setups.
• Shitsuke (Sustain): This is to maintain what has been accomplished through the previous 4 steps and keep looking forward to the improvement of the tidiness, orderliness and cleanliness through this discipline
