BIRTH CONTROL

This topic is related with the word overpopulation, that I would like to define before getting to the topic. According to de dictionary of the Oxford Academy overpopulation is the excessive population of an area to the point of overcrowding, reduction of natural resources, or environmental deterioration.

The expansion of the world population is the most important problem that should be solved in order to confront in the near future big social problems such as bad economic circumstances and lack of resources, food and housing. Birth control can have religious, cultural and moral objections, but is the fastest way to reduce the population growth rate. Governments should begin programs of birth control even in schools, telling teenagers the problems that we will confront if the population is growing in the same way.

First of all, a high birth rate means an overpopulation, which needs more accommodation, education, and health care. When you fail to control high birth rates, this will bring an expansion in the population. Increasing needs of the expanding population that can’t be provided easily and if this issue is not controlled it will cause malnutrition, health problems and dissatisfaction among people. Moreover, with a high birth rate in a fast growing population, social problems will lead to social crises and explosion. Therefore, high birth rate in a population is a very serious problem that should be solved as fast as possible to avoid crises in the country.

According to the WorldIssue magazine there are four stages of development:

1. Birth and mortality rates are high, so there is little overall growth of the population.

2. Improvements in technology and standards of living result in decreasing mortality rates, but birth rates remain high.

3. Birth rates decrease, resulting in a slower growth rate.

4. Mortality rates are higher than birth rates.

The reality of underdeveloped countries is the second stage that consists in high birth rates and low mortality rates which means that our country will be overcrowded in a few years.

Another negative aspect of high birth rate is the reduction of the natural resources of a country. The diminishing of natural resources also brings high inflation rates and unfavorable economic conditions. In a developing country, the government should not let the population increase uncontrollably. Countries such as Australia and Japan are examples to follow because they are now in the third stage of development and they’re taking the precautions of not getting in second or fourth stage.

Birth control is the fastest solution to stop an increasing population. A common criticism of the practice of birth control is that voluntary birth control would not work properly because most people believe that making people to practice birth control
