About a year ago I was able to accomplish what in my opinion is one of almost every kids dream. I was chosen to be a part of the most famous basketball league of all time, The NBA. It hasn’t been easy to be able to fulfill this dream but thank God now I’m here. I have to give special thanks to my wife; she has been always supporting me along the way. She gave me the strength to keep on going along this journey. Today I’m twenty-eight and I’m more than grateful to the Lord that has blessed me with my two boys. They are my reason to keep on working harder and harder every day. Some may say that being a basketball player is not a career. For me it’s not a career it’s definitely my passion. Besides being a basketball player. I’m also a chemical engineer although I’m not working full time. Sitting on the bench when a time out was called on the most important game of my career, they set up a play so that I could shoot the game wining bucket. When I got up to the court the shot clock was waning down: 10, 9, 8… while this was happening I remembered when…
It was back when I was on Juan Serralles High School being the captain of the basketball team. For me it was an honor to be the leader of the team of a high school with such prestige. Every time I was referred to has captain it made me feel like I was the best. I had never felt better in my life. Every time I touched the ball on the court I felt like an all-star on my team.
It was on a January 17th that I was able to be part of my high schools finals game. Just listening to hear your number been called out and your jersey number and knowing you were the leader, listening your name being called out by the crowd, overall, lots of emotions at the same time. I’ve never felt so much adrenaline traveling through my veins. I was just anxious and I patiently waiting for the jump ball. At last the whistle was blown. It was a very competitive game. It was the last quarter and there were just 11 seconds left till the end of the game. They handed the ball to me trusting on my abilities and my leadership. We were losing by 1 and it was the last game of the finals series. The shot clock waning down. There were just 5, 4, 3, 2 second left… I stepped just outside the paint and, BAAANG!!! I dropped in the game wining bucket and we won the game!
Oh, I almost forgot that I was in a championship game and I only have 3 seconds to take the shot and we were losing by 2. I stepped out from 3 and… We WON! I’ve repeated history once more
