Aims: Learn how to draw upon old jeans or any denim clothing. Recycling, reusing, repurposing denim fabric. Different ideas and materials will be shown for you to produce further items.

Learning Goals:

  1. Learn how to deconstruct old garments.
  2. Essential tools and equipment.
  3. Identify grain and bias directions in denim and how to take advantage of it.
  4. Identify a range of finishes appropriate for denim projects.

FINISHES GUIDE:

  • Bias binding
  • Applique
  • Raw edge applique
  • Boxed corners
  • Free motion embroidery
  • Free motion quilting
  • Straight & zig-zag stitches

Check on the general status of every sewing machine and plug. Promoting to be aware of the machinery and their performance.

Be aware of special needs or different support for every learner. Make sure everyone feels comfortably in order to encourage learning according to their own level of ability.

  1. Develop of embedded skills in literacy and maths. Recognition of parts of a machine alongside an instruction manual. Calculating of length and width of a variety of stitches.
  2. Build up dexterity in machine sewing skills. Skill expansion of managing a sewing machine by using problem solving and critical thinking.
  3. Extension of work environment skills. Increasing flexibility and adaptability skills as sharing tuition and waiting for advice. Encouraging of their own productivity and responsibility of their work.
  4. Encouragement of British values. Through the session is highlighted importance of cultural & community respect & tolerance.

Note: Working individually but as a part of a group, learning from each other.
