Communicative competence is the ability of a person to behave effectively and appropriately in a given speech community. In the words of D. Hymes, communicative competence is related to know "when to speak, when not to, and talk about, with whom, when, where, how"; it is the ability to form statements that are not only grammatically correct but also socially appropriate.

Communicative competence applies in all areas of our lives as human beings are in constant communication with the people around us.

In academic scope, students must be aware that knowledge of the studied area is not sufficient for effective communication, they have to know widely the cultural context of the university and the people with whom the conversation takes place.

In professional scope, communicative competence applies when the professional practice is performance, its have to do in a simple form and easy to understand for people who are given the service, taking account that they are not familiar with the professional context.

in the family scope, communicative competence becomes simpler than others, this is because the family members have an wide cultural knowledge of them, this is enough to have successful communication, opposite in the social environment is completely different because you have communication with people of different social context and this makes the communication is at times misinterpreted, therefore communication in this area should be very clear and consistent with the context in which communication takes place.

In my opinion, it is very important know widely the communication skills for that our communication be successful and interpreted correctly.
