This part of the project I had the opportunity to work with Mr.. Jorge Munoz who is running for a position in the Chamber of Representatives for the Colombians abroad. Part of his campaign consist in going out to different events where Colombians gather, places such as Colombian restaurants, Latin American festivals, Colombian meetings and many others. The reason why Mr.. Munoz has to go out to places like that is because he needs the vote of the Colombian citizens and not many people know about this political position with the Chamber of Representatives.
Mr. Munoz is a man that has been working very hard for the homeless, for almost 10 years now Mr.. Jorge Munson has been delivering dinners everyday for almost 200 homeless who wait for him in the streets of N.Y. Mr.. Munoz started as a social leader to become a political one, now he is running for the position to be a representative in the Chamber of Representatives for the Colombians abroad. For his campaign, I went to different Colombian restaurants and Colombian events in the areas of D.C., VA, and MD. I spoke to many people specially the Hispanics population and shared all the work Mr.. Munoz has been doing. The reason why I decided to help Mr.. Munoz was because I have seen the work of Mr. Jorge Munoz and I love the fact that he is a man who is not afraid of helping others, who loves doing good things for those who do not have anything to eat and that he is able to demonstrate that sharing is something that we all should do. Seeing his kind work, anybody would know that he will be a great political leader since he has the passion of working for others and that is what politics is all about.
In the summer of 2010, Jorge traveled to Colombia by an invitation that a businessman from Colombian extended him as main speaker in an event of COMFAMA. Highly official of several cities of Colombia did homage to the hero and angel of Queens that was also recognized by the Presidential Medal to the Citizen offered by the U.S. President Barack Obama. The quixotic work of Jorge took more boom when the journalist Adam B. Ellick of the The New York Times wrote a history on its hospitality with the workmen in Queens titled "The man of the chicken and rice" November 25, 2007 and was he who conferred him the name of "An Angel in Queens", leaving thus, of the pandora's box with great world projection. As consequence, Jorge has received numerous prizes and invitations to national and international level.
His participation as the candidate by the House of Representatives of Colombia abroad carried out it to reaffirm the good name of Colombia and by listen the needs of his patriots. The true mission of this social activist is to continue with the program of food to the workmen through its Foundation An Angel in Queens. Elections for this position are not until 2014; however he has to begin his campaign work now in order to be know in the community.
