The career I choose is environmental engineering. An environmental engineer performs various extremely important tasks for both welfare of nature and humanity. It is interested in the preservation of nature and looking for a way to protect it. Among the tasks the environmental engineer plays are: environmental impact of production processes to show their effects on the environment, formulate environmental projects from its base of study, responsible for management systems for quality, environmental, occupational health and safety of the personnel of the company. It also establishes methods of control and surveillance systems, in order to minimize emissions and waste of monitoring pollution. Moreover, develops and implements by calculating the different technical solutions to minimize the negative effects of industrial processes on the environment. The engineer is responsible for designing or selecting equipment and installations for the treatment of gaseous waste, liquids and solids, realization, monitoring and control. Performs the evaluation of projects and providing legal advice to companies. We can see that this takes hard work, with great responsibilities.
Likewise, we can see that not everyone has that passion and love for nature, to be an excellent environmental engineer it must have several skills some of these are: ability to analyze, ability for mathematics and chemistry, ability in the systematic analysis of facts, logical problem solving and persuasiveness. To be able to become fully trained environmental engineer, you should take some subjects of basic training such as mathematics, physics, statistics, General Chemistry, cell biology. This will help you get all the skills to be an excellent professional and manage with great performance. In the occupational field, the environmental engineer has various institutions which could achieve both employment and public central, regional and municipal government agencies. On the other hand, employment in the sector could get private like: agricultural area, buildings, energy industries, agro-industries, health companies and transfer stations. You could also be an independent consultant or teaching and provide guidance in universities.
The salary of an environmental engineer may vary depends on their performance, the sector where he works and the region. In Puerto Rico the starting salary of this professional can start approximately from the $53,362 until the $80,240 onwards. On the other hand, some works that can begin in high school that is related to this field might be: join the environmental club where they teach you to protect and preserve the environment and its surroundings, you can participate in cleaning of coasts that are around all over Puerto Rico and in the school you can attend several of them.
