Cartago Province
Introducction:
Cartego is one of the seven provinces of Costa Rica. It is located in the center of the country,
without access to the coast. Bounded on the north and east by Limon, west and south San Jose.
Its capital, Cartago was until 1823 capital of Costa Rica, during the colonial and early Republic.
Geography
Cartago is the second smallest province in the country after Heredia's total area covers an area of 3124.6 km ².
It is also one of the richest in colonial tradition, was the capital of Costa Rica until 1823, when he moved the capital to the city of San Jose
History

Tourism

Ruins and Lake Cachi Ujarrás
Ruins Ujarrás, is all that remains of the first church built in Costa Rica during the seventeenth century, and are seen as a relic of colonial times. Next to the ruins of Ujarrás, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute has built a recreation area overlooking the lake that forms the Cachi hydroelectric dam, where you can enjoy water rides, and in the picnic areas (areas de "picnic" ) of the surrounding green areas, like food.
Church of Orosi
This building, built in 1735, is the oldest colonial church is still standing and in use. It houses a small museum of colonial and religious art.
