The reality about the industrial engineering, today, in Colombia

This competition is admitted by the productive managerial sector, that the gun-sight from off with certain disdain, and to her we will refer afterwards. Appreciate the programs of study of Administration of Companies and of Industrial Engineering. With exception of some few subjects, in many cases today it is difficult to distinguish them clearly. Be estimated on the other hand, the trend in the programs of Industrial Engineering of some Universities, of establishing inside them, the "options" or "emphasis", in own areas of another profession, inside the criterion of "interdisciplinariedad". Emphasis in systems, organizations, marketing, finance, mathematical models, management of the human resource, etc.

On the other hand, in the last years there has arisen in the Colombian Universities the " Engineering of Production ". What do they mean the described realities? In my modest opinion, that the Industrial Engineering is a profession that has lost the identity, first because, not all, of whom they have the responsibility of orientating her, though they want to communicate his essence to whom they her study, it seems to many that they were thinking that to know her thoroughly and to specialize itself in her, it is scarcely a step in the career of the Industrial Engineer who must overcome rapidly possible mas and realize the traffic towards other areas as those of marketing and finance, of mas status, in that they have mas professional and economic projection.

Secondly because the managerial way has not returned completely to the recognition that had and lost the management and task of the Industrial Engineer as factor of development, opposite to other professions of mas recent emergence, which is reflected in the wages that are paid to the professionals of each one.

Comentario

Esta investigación de la Universidad de los Andes sobre el perfil ocupacional de sus egresados de Ingeniería Industrial, publicada en su revista, muestra que una muy alta proporción de ellos, la mayor, se encuentra trabajando en el campo financiero.

La simple observación de la realidad en el sector empresarial, sobre la cual valdría la pena hacer también una investigación estadística que la valide, muestra que hay una malsana competencia entre el Ingeniero Industrial y el Administrador, casi siempre ocupando el primero, cargos que por su responsabilidad, y frente a las áreas propias de estudio del administrador, corresponden a éste.
