MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

In the past our ancestors used to have the early attempts to ascend mountain peaks that were inspired by other than sporting motives, the most common reasons was build altars or get an overview of one’s neighbouring zone, or also to make geological observations. Nowadays the activity of climbing to the top of a mountain is consider a sport that became famous in the 1800’s, and it’s practiced by many people all around the world.

The sport of mountain climbing is not just climb mountains, you also need to have a group of skills and a required equipment. Mountain climbers use the strength of their arms and legs to climb up to the mountain peaks so because of that, physical skills and having athletic abilities are indispensable for them. They also need to have technical knowledge to maintain safe in case of emergencies and a good training or climbing experience. The equipment consist most of the time in a rope, a helmet, a harness, a knife, special clothes, water and food, and a first-aid kit. Mountain climbing is often also called Alpinism, which is a little different because it implies doing climbing routes with minimal equipment where technical difficulties can makes it more dangerous.

The reasons why people practice mountain climbing are many. It can be for recreation or competition but people who do any of them coincided that the principal reason are the benefits that climbing do for your body and spirit. It helps you a lot to be healthier because of the hard work and effort that you have to make to achieve your goals and at the same time gives you an empowered feeling by accomplishing it, that many mountain climbers describe like ineffable. Also teaches you values like perseverance and patience that helps you to be better in any aspect of your life.

The positive aspects of this sport like a said before can be all the physical and mental improvements that you earn practicing mountain climbing and also the fact that it’s a “cheap” sport because almost all the things from the equipment are very affordable. Despite of the amount of benefits that climbing brings to you, they also can have negative aspects. One of them are the risks that you take when you decide climbing without equipment, and also that it can be bad for the environment in case you don’t have the permissions or rights to practice in a specific place exposing you and the surroundings to any catastrophe.

I would recommend mountain climbing only if you are a person who has all the requirements and can be able to cope difficult situations because I think this sport helps you to be a better person inside and out thanks to all the benefits that it gives you.
