My Family Trip

On August 12th of this year, my family and I decided to go on a trip around the eastern side of the Dominican Republic, something we had been talking about for months. Before starting the trip we went to Santo Domingo to stay at my uncle’s house for the night, since he and his family were going too and we had to leave early in the morning. That night we talked about all the places we were going to visit. My dad told us that my uncle and him had rented a van for all of us so we could be together on the road. After we finished planning everything, it was time to sleep.

The next day at 8 in the morning it was time to leave. We gathered all of our backpacks and got in the van my uncle had already picked from the rent a car. From the start it did not look like luck was on our side this time, starting with the fact that the van was smaller than we thought and I, being the shortest of all, had to go in the back with the backpacks and food. When we arrived to Hato Mayor it started raining, which meant we could not go to the Fun Fun Cave the first day as we had planned; therefore, we kept going to our next stop, Sabana de la Mar. The road was not in good condition but when we arrived to the place we were staying for the night, it was all worth it.

The place was called Paraíso Caño Hondo and I must say it was truly a paradise, the rooms had a rustic style, there were natural pools and there was also a zipline. As soon as we had the opportunity, we changed to our bathing suits and jumped into the cold water. After an hour swimming and laughing with my siblings and cousins it was already getting dark so we went back to the room to get ready for dinner. The next day we had breakfast and went to Los Haitises, where we had the opportunity to see the mangroves and caves. After we finished the tour, we got in the van and drove to our next destination.

Now this was my favorite part of the trip because it was my idea to visit Montaña Redonda in Miches. What I did not know is that the road to the top of the mountain was very dangerous, so my family and relatives were telling me they hoped it was good because if it was not, I would get in trouble. When we reached the top, we were mesmerized by the view where we could see two lagoons and the sea. However, the best part of the mountain was the famous swing where I had the opportunity to sit and take a picture with the beautiful background. The mountain is so famous that there were many people waiting in line to take a picture on the swing.

That night, we arrived to Punta Cana and stayed in a small hotel called Corocito and the next morning we went to the beach. At 11 in the morning we left the hotel and did a tour around the beautiful Cap Cana, which had an European vibe. Then, we decided it was time to go back to Hato Mayor to sleep that night and go to the Fun Fun Cave the next day. However, like on the first day, luck was not on our side either and there were not tours available that day so we ended up going back to Santo Domingo without going to the famous Fun Fun Cave. At the end, even though we did not visit all the places we wanted, spending those four days with my family and relatives was good enough to say this was one of the best trips I have had with them.
