I recently saw the 2014 film Whiplash. It’s about a jazz student called Andrew Newman who is studying at the Shaffer Conservatory which is located in New York. He plays drums and wants to be the best drummer of the history. Andrew met to Terrence Fletcher who is an orchestra’s director and Andrew wants to belong to this orchestra. But Fletcher is very severe, perfectionist and demand too much to his students even he insults to them if they do something wrong, everything for be perfect.
One day, Andrew is invited to a test by Fletcher but Andrew can’t get expectations of Fletcher, so he decides to practice a lot until his hands bleed. But the wicked man, Fletcher makes to feel so bad to Andrew with a lot of ways than he can imagine until Andrew has an accident and decided to leave his dream. Although in the end, he returned and took his own destiny.
Andre Newman was starred by Milles Teller and Terrence Fletcher was starred by J.K. Simmons who won Oscar for Best Performance as an Actor in a Supporting Role.
I like the moment of the movie where Andrew has the car accident because it shows the limits that sometimes we reach and we need to stop if we want to be fine. And I like to much the performance of J.K. Simmons, I think it was extreme with our feelings it makes me feel as I were into the movie as Andrew.
I don’t like when Andrew break off with his girlfriend. I think it was so stupid and selfish.
I feel that the movie was shocking, it makes to think about the things that we believe are our dreams and sometimes we are lost. The story first was a little boring but in the end was interesting and the performance of J.K. Simmons was so amazing, so I rate this movie as good with three stars.
