Feminist Strike
By: Isidora Zazzali Durán
After two months of the feminist strike, this August 1st, the UCN finally returned to its everydayness. During this movement, a common question came up, is the feminist strike beneficial to UCN students’ education? For obvious reasons, there are many points of view, but throughout this essay, we are going to talk about three of the most important argument that answers the question.
At first sight, this movement would have many benefits for the UCN students' education, due to the request letter, which had a good answer by the rectory. Therefore, over time the students will meet changes in the current education, a feminist approach will be used to eliminate inequality between genders and the sexist education. Besides, other benefits to the students, such as, the implantation of a playgroup and an abuse protocol.
Meanwhile, the abuse protocol drafting is going to start soon, but when it will be finished one of the most important students' benefit would be cover. Now, our university does not have any protocol that protects us, as students, in any type of case or abuse. The implementation of this new protocol will give the students a protection in case of any struggle with a teachers, classmates or employees.
However, all the movements have critiques, because of the long-lasting strike many students are worried about the time and money wasted since some students live in internships/pensions and the summer break will be shorter than usual. Moreover, the academic charge, during August, the semester must finish, so all the tests and assessments are exhaustive.
In brief, the feminist strike gives the students safeguards to their education and future, protecting them and giving a different approach to the current education. Despite all the money or time wasted, these benefits will help all the UCN community. As far as I am concerned, and since I participated during the feminist strike, all the benefits are crucial to our education, and they reply the current problems in the UCN community, region and country. Now, we just should wait until we start to see the difference.
