1. Water pollution: its contaminants
Water pollution resulting from discharges of substances that produce a quality degradation for other users. If the population and industry grow, the water tends to be contaminated.
Different types of pollution can be classified according to the nature of the pollutants, their source and amount in which they are dumped. If there are variety of contaminants, their level of pollution and its effects are identified.
Hydrocarbons have a great responsibility for accidental water pollution.
Slicks in freshwater are often caused by negligence: dilapidated or abandoned tanks that are leaking in companies, public and private establishments house; the road segment â ???? transportation companies, road accidents, exhaust gas stations ???? It contributes significantly, followed by the corporation distributors-deliverers fuel and oil spills abusive by barges and pleasure boats.
These hydrocarbons are new products or waste oils or oils drain industrial use. They can also hide polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB).
The other pollutants often repatriated come from the agricultural sector, transport, industry and dysfunction of the collection network and sanitation of rainwater and wastewater.
2. Solutions against water pollution
If the water is contaminated, we must take action against this.
Depending on the pollutants, prevention methods must be different
Disinfection: chlorine-based generally, is often used against pathogens.
BOD: it can be reduced before discharge treating municipal and industrial effluents in settling basins and retention and activation sludge tanks.
Control nitrogen and phosphorus: is to regulate the source (detergents without phosphorus) and land use (limitations on use of fertilizers). Special treatments can remove them from municipal and industrial effluents.
Toxic materials: they must be regulated more earlier. The diversity of toxic products is matched by the diversity of the problems that generate and control possibilities that exist. PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), for example, must be controlled in the place of production to limit its spread.
If certain toxic products are replaced, it is for their non-toxic substitutes.
Acidification: can be anticipated effectively for control from the atmospheric rejections of nitrogen oxide and sulfur.
Modifications temperature can be avoided by dissipating heat in the atmosphere with air cooling.
