The digestive system
I love a good meal and am often looking for a new restaurant to try. Due to my love of food. I will do my paper on the 7 steps and functions of the digestive system. Everything starts with the mouth chewing and breaking down food small enough to be delivered to the pharynx. Outside of moving the food and liquids to the esophagus the pharynx lubricates food to make it easier to pass through the rest of the digestive system. As the food and liquid pass through the esophagus to the stomach. It is being mixed and churned with gastric fluids. The stomach has begun with its chemical breakdown of proteins to send to the small intestine. This is where the remainder of food mixes with acids and digestive fluids for easier digestion. The small intestines are where smaller products like carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and proteins to be absorbed into the body. This is the point where liquid goes through the liver into the bloodstream to be processed through kidneys to eliminate waste in the blood and rebuild cells of the body. All the rest of the waste is deposited through the urinary tract. The last stop for solid foods is the large intestine. The large intestine turns the last of food resides into feces and exits out of the anus. Once we reach an older age the digestive system starts to slow down. Here are some of the changes we face as we grow older. “Age-related changes in the digestive system begin in the mouth and can affect virtually every aspect of the digestive system. Swallowing can be difficult, and ingested food moves slowly through the alimentary canal because of reduced strength and tone of muscular tissue” (Lumen Learning, 2023). Here is a complete breakdown of the ins and outs of the digestive systems. I hope you learn something .
