The importance of water for the human body

What is water? If we were to break this compound down, we can see that it is composed of H2O. H stands for hydrogen and O stands for oxygen. This simple compound is very important for our lives. Our bodies need this compound in able to sustain our body temperature and it also serves as a lubricant in our body.

Our bodies are wired to control over-heating through perspiration from sweat glands in the skin and from evaporation which produces a cooling effect. Maintaining yourself in a cold environment, our body's temperature starts to conserve its heat by shunting blood away from the exterior. The cellular plasma inside our body is made up by 92% water. And why is blood plasma being mentioned? Well, it plays a critical role circulating antibodies from the immune system, and much more.

The lubrication that water enforces on us in digestion and almost all other body processes. Our saliva has water, and it helps us chew and swallow our food. Ensuring us that all of the food will slide down with no trouble in the esophagus. Water helps us lubricate our joints and cartilages, allowing them to move fluidly. If we had less lubrication in our joints, it would cause them a huge friction and can be really uncomfortable to deal with back, joint and knee pains. Our eyes even needs water for it to function and remain healthy.

Most people don't recur to water every day, as their water source and this could cause problems ahead in time. These people, that can't seem to change their habits, should see the problems that could lead up to. Our body is approximately made up by 50-75% of water. That's a very high percentage, if you ask me. It's two thirds of your body mass and it should be given more emphasis on the subject.
