If we have to think about in which century the most importan world changes happened, it is in the XX. At the opening of this century, the world was socially shrinking. During that time a huge progress in science and technology was happening. A lot of different transport and communication machines were invented, such as: transcontinental railways, which connected Europe with the Far East of Asia, the Atlantic and Pacific with North America, while the locomotive was appearing in some places of Europe. But, in many parts of the world, motor transport was supplementing railways. At the same time steamships were crossing the oceans, the invention of telephone and telegraph allowed communications between places and half million miles of submarine cables were joining the continent. Another thing to stand out is that in 1903 aeronautical engineers annexed a petrol engine with a glider, innagurating the first aeroplane, and an important development in internal-combustion, for automobiles and aeroplanes, was the rapid expansion of the mining of petroleum and production of rubber for tyres.

The technological advance was more significant to the progress in medical science, that made an effect on the lenghthening human life and reduced the death rate. In the nineteenth century the population was almost doubled, and during the first fourteen years of the XX century the rate of population increased to the 15 millions. It was due to the migration of people from some parts of the world to others, searching for more comfortable conditions of life too. While the atmosphere on society was changing, Europe was still the economic centre of the world, because their inventions made the world a market based in the European continent. In addition, was the world-wide interchange of goods, capital, and organisation of national companies with international affiliations, that created a world-wide economic interdependence.

In terms of politics, at the XX century there was three different politican systems. One of them was the one which had an organisation of ministers with a king in charge of the Parliament, for example in Britain. Another one was the idea of a ‘’federal republic’’ with a democracy, where the population’s opinion was important too. And, the last one, was the autocratic imperial state system, which was used in some Asian areas and North European.

To conclude, is a fact that the XX century is one of the most important period in the history of the whole world, because in there happened the most crucial changes in terms of technology, society, economics and politics, and these changes made, in different points of view, the type of world in which we live nowadays.
