The King’s Speech

Part I      Setting

1. 1925 – Empire exhibition in Wembley, London

Bertie has to make a speech but he couldn’t do it because of his problem of stammer.

1. 1936 – Sandringham Estate

It’s the moment that Bertie’s brother landed in his plane and Bertie was waiting for him.

1. 1936 – in the palace Bertie’s brother signed his retirement to the crown and Bertie became king.
2. December 12, 1936 – Accession Council, St. James Palace

It was the time when Bertie as King George VI make a speech with almost no stammer. A speech about the war they were going thru.

Part II   Characters

1. Bertie –Prince Albert Frederick Arthur , Duke of York , he became King George IV. He has a speech defect known as stutter and has a strong temper.
2. David – Bertie’s Brother, first son of the king. After his father he is becoming king.
3. Elisabeth and Margaret –Bertie’s daughters.
4. Lionel Loque – He’s the person that helps Bertie to speak in public without stutter.

Part III   Conflicts

1. Bertie has to fight with his problem of stutter. It wasn’t easy but he made a speech that almost didn’t stutter.
2. David, Bertie’s brother can’t be with the woman he loves so he make a decision and quit the crown to be with the love of his life. Bertie became king.
3. Lionel, before beginning to help Bertie in his speaking problem, tried to be in a theatrical production but they wanted someone younger, so he was rejected. There we saw discrimination because of his age.
4. Hitler threat’s with a war.

Part IV  Plot

As we can see in the movie, a man with a great attitude and determination recognize his speaking problem and worked to improve his problem. We can also see how Lionel, the person that helps Berties, became a closely friend. We could see discrimination of age when Lionel tried to act in a theatrical production. He didn’t fell, he continues his life working in what he knows best, speaking problems. Also in the movie we can seea great wife that supports Bertie in all moments. Bertie shows a great responsibility in all moments, in his speaking problem, with his wife, with the norms of being king and with his country. This movie shows inspiration that no matter what we can reach our goals and be successful.
