Objective: To analyze the importance of knowing the audience.
Procedure:
Individually, or in pairs:
- Read each case scenario:
Case 1 | Case 2 | Case 3 | Case 4 | Case 5 |
- Define the type of audience of each case.
- Write what to do in order to make a successful presentation.
- Provide detailed information of the presentation answering the questions: who, what and why.
- Reflect on the benefits of having the habits of highly effective speakers. Which one do you need to improve?
- Be ready to present your activity to class, your teacher will choose a presenter for each case.
Results:
Case 1. You’re the first presenter early in the morning
It’s the predictable a.m. meeting mess. People are more interested in scoring their favorite donut than they are in taking their seats. They’re sleepy, foggy brained, and easily distracted.
2- Type of audience: indifferent
3- In this case is important to use a higher voice for the sleepy people and giving a little time for them to finish their stuff (taking the seats). You can try to manage a presentation with some interactive questions and short videos in order to put some positive energy to the boring atmosphere, but always following the point or objective of the presentation. Even you can ask the audience of how they want to participate.
4- *Who?
Is the last person in your presentation. This presentation is going to use confiable data and some emotions for the audience.
*What?
The objective of this presentation is that the other people accept the idea using the best examples. (to invest in the proyect)
*Why?
Cause is going to be beneficiary for both parts. The objective of this presentation is that the listeners invert in a specific project (Why should the last person do what you ask?)
Case 2. You’re the last presenter at the end of a long day
Your audience has already sat through hours of presentations, some of which bored them, others of which left them mentally exhausted. More than anything, they want to go home so all eyes are on the clock instead of on you.
2- Type of audience: unaware
3- You need to do something similar like in the first case, because this people is very indisposed to listen to your words. First, a very attractive presentation is needed with less letters and more images, talking higher than usual and presenting your ideas in a slowly manner trying not to be boring for those who listen to you. Maybe going only for the main and more important points to not make the presentation longer than appropriate.
