1. The house of the future (6 points)
- Research about different types of houses in countries around the world.
- Make a list of characteristics you would include in a “house of the future”.
- Ask yourself what features would be useful and in what situations.
- Present your ideal house of the future with pictures and brief explanations.
TYPES OF HOUSES
- Brick house: Came to replace materials such as wood, stone, mud and straw with the advance of technology. Can be found in many places across the world.
- Snow house: Are made up of snow blocks built up into the shape of a dome. Temperatures inside can be raised up to around 15°C when the outside temperature is -40°C. Can be found in the areas around the Arctic Circle, Alaska and Greenland.
- House Boat: varies in size – with some being very small while some can be up to two storeys. There are people who use it for vacation purposes, while others stay in it all year round.
- Cavehouse: Are relatively inexpensive to build, as no roofs or walls are required to be constructed. Can be carved out from hard rock such as limestone or from softer surfaces such as loess. There are in Spain, Turkey, China and U.S.
- Yurt: Are built in the shape of a circle with a wooden frame, and covered with thick felt mats. Are thus easily movable as homes when families shift across grasslands. Are foldable homes used by people in Central Asia and Mongolia.
- Stilt house: Raised above ground with stilts. This protects them from floods and wild animals. The elevation keeps the house cool. Can be found at coastal areas and inland. They are common in parts of Southeast Asia.
- Mud house: It’s usually combined with different materials such as straw, sticks and even cattle dung and oil. Can be found in Africa, parts of Central and South America, India, China and southeast.
- Underground house: People used these homes as a way to defend against foreign invasions and protect against the harsh temperatures. Can be found in Italy, Turkey and China.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MY FUTURE HOUSE
- It will have a smart thermostat. So we can change the temperature at home easily according our needs.
- Easy home surveillance with our own personal channel, checking our house while we are outside.
- Smart lighting in different colors and intensities will be automatic and programmable.
- It is going to be ecological. Every machine in the kitchen will work with solar energy.
- My house will change its shape and style every time we need to do it.
- A space at home is going to be destined especially for work. It’s going to be fundamental to spend more time with family.
FEATURES USEFUL IN DIFFERENTS SITUATIONS
In the context of intelligent environments, the future homes will be pointed as one of the main constituents of smarter living environments. The most significant intelligent values embodied in smart houses embrace technologies of the functional automation.
It will be substantially intertwined with integrated ICT technologies which aim to ensure comfortable living environments. As a result, the promotion and integration of smart houses with other smarter elements of cities will achieve a significant enhancement of the quality of life and a stronger urban sustainability.
MY IDEAL FUTURE HOUSE
- It will do more for me than just give me a place to rest my head at nights. I will have web-connected TV’s, home appliances, and sound systems that I can control from anywhere in my house using a smartphone.
- It will have tiny sensors in things like light switches, doors, windows, thermostats and fitness devices. By using these kinds of sensors, I could easily monitor and control things like the temperature, doors, TV’s and other appliances.
- Will include a more centralized entertainment and streaming system designed to offer convenience and pleasure. In the other hand will have a personal home security system, which can be used with a private network using facial recognition to entry at home.

2. Your community in the future (6 points)
- Choose a year in the future and make notes about how your city or community will change.
I imagine my city in the future. Could be the year 2050. What do I see? Clean streets, flying cars and robots that do all the work? It’s a great possibility. Technology advances so quickly. My city is modernized and tidy. People in communities are better organized y considered each other. They care of the environment and global warming. Pollution and conflicts are part of the past.
Is a smart city, because everything is connected to intelligent system that control the traffic, vehicles, lights, traffic lights, parking, velocity, etc. It could called a decarbonized city full of electric vehicles and shared bicycle systems, with a good air quality.
