Knowledge and Understanding
This case is about a Japanese boy who recently committed suicide, last October, and he was just 13 years old. He was hardly bullied in his school by everyone; some of them bullied him just by peer pressure. Teachers didn’t do anything at all, some of them laugh at the jokes too, they just warned the students with some words but then teachers will join students to bully him. He jumped from his 14th floor department. His father went to the police and he put charges on the situation but the police said it wasn’t enough. All the parents from the school were angry because the school didn’t stop the bullying from the kids. The school has been receiving many calls from upset parents. After eight months of the suicide the police is finally doing something. They made a survey of all the students (which was obviously anonymous) and many students confessed that the bullying was really harsh. They forced him to eat paper and dead bugs, even to rob in stores. The students also talked about how the teachers were part of the bullying and they also wrote in the survey they made fun of him when he wasn’t around. His father and the police are now going to the bottom of this sad situation.
Thinking and Inquiry
This article is a perfect example about psychology and it interrelates a lot with anthropology and sociology. It relations with this three subjects in different ways. The psychological part its about how this kid is feeling and why he committed suicide. In the anthropology part we can relation it with the environment he is living in, and in the sociology part we can talk about all the people around him.
He lives in a good house where he receives love and apparently his parents worry a lot for him, but in school he is in an environment where he just feels sadness, madness, stress. Nobody shows kindness, love, friendship, comprehension, etc. and we all need that at some point. Teachers are acting like kids and he feels powerless. We can deduce easily why he committed his suicide, he was stuck in a world he hated and nobody could ever stand to be bullied that way.
Application
This tragic story is a big lesson for everyone, teenagers, parents, and teachers, even the police. It’s a perfect example and a really sad experience that none of us will ever want to live. We should all work together to destroy bullying; there is no need of it. Bullying can lead to suicide and all the people around the bullied person are responsible for it. Teenagers, stop it, if you don’t like someone, you don’t need to. Parents should teach their children that they are all important no matter what people think or say of them they should never let themselves be treated like that neither treat someone like that. Teachers or adults should always defend the bullied one and try to help. Same with the police and the also need to look further in this kind of situations.
